What's the difference between Vitamin Optimix Cooking & Vitamin Optimix Barf plus Calcium?
The composition of both products is identical, the big difference lies in the feed plans of the two mineral vitamin powders. In addition to meat, vegetables, possibly dairy products, oils & treats, the recipes of Vitamin Optimix Cooking also contains cooked carbohydrates, so that the feed schedule becomes a classic cooking recipe.
With the Vitamin Optimix Barf plus Calcium, on the other hand, the plans are based only on the classic "BARF components" meat (& innards), possibly dairy products, vegetables, oils & treats.
The nutritional differences between these feed plans are so small that the same mineral powder fits both variants. The differences in the product names make it easier for you to choose the right powder. Another advantage is that you have the choice between two different food plans for one product (whether Vitamin Optimix Cooking or Barf plus Calcium) and that you can alternate if necessary - without having to buy another product.
With both products you can give the meat raw or cooked. Hardly any nutrients are lost during the cooking process, only the protein structure changes and any germs that may be present are killed. This makes the meat more tolerable for sensitive animals.
How does the wolf do it without such a powder?
The wolf regularly eats all parts of a prey, he is not a pure "carnivore". In addition to the protein from the muscles, he also receives important minerals and vitamins e.g. from the fur, bones, innards and intestinal contents. In prey, however, the nutrient compositions vary depending on their habitat. A wolf that migrates to a known iodine deficiency area like Bavaria for example, will very likely also have an iodine deficiency after a short time. However, as an animal owner, you have the right to ensure that your animal gets all the nutrients it needs, because the trace elements are particularly important for the immune system. Can't you find feeding deficiencies in the blood?
Iron and vitamin D can be measured in the blood. But even if an animal hardly gets calcium from the food, the blood level is still within the normal range because the body takes the missing calcium from the skeleton. A blood test is not suitable for this. Only a ration check helps to determine what the animal is missing.
I don't calculate rations for myself and my children!
That is a common argument. A few examples should clarify: Humans need 1000mg of calcium per day, which can be covered by 200ml of milk, 125g of yogurt, 125g of curd cheese and 50 g of cheese per day. A 30 kg adult dog needs 1700mg calcium, a young dog of the same breed needs about 5000mg calcium per day in the 4th month of life. This can hardly be covered with dairy products that contain an average of approx. 100mg calcium per 100g. Components such as fleshy bones, which have a high calcium content, are required. Our example dog needs about 100-200g (adult) or up to 300g (young dog) per day. Calcium-rich alternatives are eggshells, calcium carbonate, algae lime, calcium citrate or calcium lactate if the bone feeding is not tolerated or is not desired.
The dog also has a requirement 3 to 4 times higher than that of humans for trace elements.
Of course, you don't have to weigh all the feed every day. But it is crucial for your animal whether a knife tip of eggshells is given or 300g calf bones per day or no calcium source at all and whether fish are fed once a week for iodine supply or seaweed is used every day.

Blue particles in the Vitamin Optimix
The small blue particles that can sometimes be found in the powder are the copper components of the mineral mixture. Copper is a trace element that is particularly important for the ligaments as well as for blood, enzyme and pigment formation. The copper sulfate we use is blue. Since the individual parts attract each other like magnets, larger conglomerates can also occur, which you can recognize.
There is no impairment of the product.
